Opus Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
On the tip of the toe there is alao a pique work flower. Beautifully decorated brass pins to represent the buttons are enclosed by fine brass stringing. The heel, sole and tip of the toe are stained in a darker colour to a striking effect. On the underside of the shoe there are the initials G + S anf futher brass pique .
This snuff shoe has been very well made with lots of features, in particular the unusual feature of a bird. It was probably made as a love token or wedding present with the initaials to the base.
It measures 6cm h x 10.2cm l.
