French silver deposit blue ground porcelain dressing mirror, 19th century.
The beveled oval plate is set between sphinx uprights on a dished cartouche base painted with a floral medallion reserved on a blue ground, with a monogram pad mark JG.
This is a very rare and unusual mirror made by Jean Gille, one of the best masters of painted biscuit pieces in France. Jean Gille founded a porcelain factory at Rue de Paradis-Poissonničre in France around 1845. He mainly made biscuit figurines of very high quality. His chief modeler was Charles Baury, who later took over the factory with Vion, thus it became known as Vion and Baury.
