FAQs

Eighteenth-century pier mirrors are characterised by vertical proportions designed to fit the wall space between windows, often featuring architectural pediments and rich wood veneers.

These pieces typically utilise figured walnut veneers applied to softwood or hardwood substrates, complemented by carved wooden details and gesso work with leaf gilding.

Authentication relies on examining the construction joints, timber oxidation, backboards, and the characteristics of the mirror glass, which often exhibits hand-bevelling or slight imperfections.

This piece can be mounted above a console table or mantelpiece to introduce historical contrast, vertical emphasis, and reflected light into a modern space.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the finish, and cleaning the glass with non-abrasive solutions while avoiding moisture on old wooden frames.
