FAQs

Italian carved wood mirrors have a rich tradition dating back centuries, heavily influenced by Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo design movements, celebrated for intricate craftsmanship and opulent gilding.

These pieces typically feature hand-carved softwoods or hardwoods finished with gesso and gold leaf, often assembled with traditional joinery suited to the period.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved tool marks, aged patination on the gilt surface, older mirror glass with minor foxing, and traditional backing materials consistent with mid-20th-century manufacture.

Such mirrors serve as focal points in contemporary spaces, contrasting cleanly against minimalist walls or adding texture when hung above a modern console or mantelpiece.

Maintain the finish by dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can degrade the delicate gilt surface, and keeping the piece away from excessive moisture and direct sunlight.
