Georgian glassware encompasses items produced during the reigns of the four British monarchs named George between 1714 and 1830, characterised by heavy lead content, distinct pontil marks, and hand-cut or engraved ornamentation.

These pieces were crafted primarily from high-lead flux glass, known for its heavy weight and high refractive index, and were shaped by hand-blowing into moulds or free-blowing before being hand-cut and polished.

Authenticity is determined by examining the rough pontil scar on the underside of the base, checking for tool marks, observing the greyish hue and minor imperfections inherent in early lead glass, and verifying weight and wear patterns.

Displaying historical glassware inside illuminated glass-front cabinets or on open shelving allows natural light to highlight the facet-cut patterns while maintaining a clean, minimalist contemporary contrast.

Preserve antique glassware by washing by hand in warm water using mild soap, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and never placing pieces in a dishwasher.
