FAQs

Victorian seating from the 19th century often featured robust internal metal or wooden frames, heavily padded contours, and enclosed upholstery designed for comfort and parlour display.

Traditional Victorian chairs frequently utilised internal cast iron or sturdy timber frames, coil springs, horsehair stuffing, and heavy woven textiles or patterned cottons for the outer cover.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery, heavy weight due to iron components, traditional hand-tacked upholstery methods, and wear consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing techniques.

Pair the piece with neutral walls, minimalist modern furnishings, or natural wood floors to allow the traditional pattern and textured fabric to serve as a focal point.

Protect the fabric from direct sunlight to prevent fading, vacuum gently using a low-suction attachment, and consult a professional textile conservator for deep cleaning.
