Victorian Oak Framed Cane Library Chair

19th century
Description

A lovely oak library chair dating from the late 19th Century. It is a good comfortable chair and very well made with a cane seat. It has an attractive shape with a curving back supported by nicely shaped splats with two scrolling arms. It stands on turned legs. It makes a lovely desk chair but would also be a nice library or hall chair.

It is approximately 32 3/4" (83cm) high and the arms are 24" (61cm) wide. The seat is 19" (49cm) deep and approximately 16 1/2" (42cm) high.

It is in very good condition for its age. It has developed a lovely aged patina with a rich colour and is structurally very sound. There are signs of age and use and it is not without a few small marks here and there but nothing detrimental or untoward. There has been a small repair to the rear splat but it is strong and sturdy. The cane is in good order and the chair has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
