Scottish Longcase Clock

£1,695    $2,206    €2,018
This is an unusual and very attractive mahogany longcase clock by George Hill of Boness with the four seasons hand painted to the four corners and a most interesting gathering of family members listening to father''s recital of the good book, with a caption to the bottom which says COTTERS - SATURDAY NIGHT. On the table is a chamber stick with candle snuffers alongside. The gathered family don''t seem to be too engrossed, a couple of them appear to be asleep. Not sure what the child is doing to the animal but he has a large pair of scissors to hand. All hand painted, quite well executed and the colours still holding strong. The mahogany case has a swan neck pediment with attractive brass lozenges and the usual finial, a simple twin pillared hood above a very attractive and shapely mid section, with a bowed door a curved panels above and below, all nicely set off with feathered mahogany veneers. The box base has a square panel above a shaped apron and feet. The movement is of an either day duration and the clock is ticking away nicely after a light service. Overall the whole is in very good condition.
