FAQs

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the wood finish and upholstery, and periodically applying appropriate wax polish to nourish the timber.

They can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing them with a minimalist dining table to create an eclectic contrast, or used as standalone accent pieces in a bedroom or hallway.

Authentic pieces are identified through period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut joinery, traditional upholstery materials, patination on the wood, and the characteristic continuous curved wooden backrest.

These chairs were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or beech, often featuring traditionally upholstered drop-in seats filled with horsehair and finished with various textiles.

The balloon back chair style originated during the Victorian era, gaining widespread popularity in Britain during the mid-19th century as manufacturing techniques allowed for steam-bending wood into distinctive curved shapes.
