Description

A magnificent set of 10 antique mahogany Chippendale style carver dining chairs. They were made in England, and date from around the 1900-1920’s period.

The quality is outstanding and it is very rare to find a set of ten like this, especially all with arms. They are very sturdy and well made, with finely carved, beautifully pierced backs. They have scrolled arm rests and sit on straight legs with stretchered bases for extra stability. The drop in seats are upholstered in a stunning green leather which have a gorgeous patina, and they have horse hair stuffing.

The condition is excellent for their age, they are all nicely polished with a lovely patina, and only some minor wear beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Maintain antique timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and keeping pieces away from direct heat sources.

Pairing these classical chairs with a minimalist contemporary dining table creates a striking visual contrast that highlights their intricate carved details.

Authenticity is assessed through timber oxidisation, hand-cut joinery marks, the weight and grain of old-growth mahogany, and signs of genuine wear consistent with age.

These pieces are traditionally constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, featuring mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved pierced splats, and robust frame assembly.

The Chippendale style originates from the 18th-century designs of cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, characterised by a synthesis of Gothic, Rococo, and Chinese influences translated into fine timbers.
