Rare Fine Quality Set of Six George II Walnut Dining Chairs of Fine Patina

A wonderful rare fine quality set of six George II (circa 1740) walnut dining chairs of fine patina.

This set of chairs are of a transitional design having influences from more than one period, the backs precede the designs of the Chippendale period and the legs having influences from the Queen Anne period.

This set of chairs each consist of a shaped top rail with carved paper scrolls to each corner with shaped tapering uprights and pierced vase shaped back splat.

This leads down to a drop in seat, all retaining original seat frames but with later upholstery, finished in a neutral fabric, the seat rails having a moulded edge with shaped front and side rails.

The chairs are supported on finely carved cabriole legs to the front having scroll decoration to the top leading down to a carved scallop shell and terminating with a ball and claw foot with chamfered outswept legs to the back.

This set of chairs are in very good original condition for age, other than the later upholstery, are of stable construction and can go straight into a home – it is unusual to find a set of six chairs of this design from this period.
