Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fusee wall clock is a mechanical timepiece featuring a conical brass pulley connected to the mainspring barrel by a chain or gut line. This mechanism equalises the force delivered to the clockwork movement as the spring unwinds, maintaining consistent accuracy.

Victorian wall clocks were crafted using solid and veneered hardwoods, predominantly mahogany, oak, and walnut. The internal mechanical movements were constructed from cast brass plates, steel arbors, and iron weights, while the dials were generally painted sheet iron.

Authentic mid-19th-century fusee clocks feature heavy cast brass movement plates, hand-cut gear teeth, and a micro-fine chain or gut line wrapped around a tapered fusee drum. The timber cases exhibit hand-carved joinery details, natural age-related patina, and painted iron dials with Roman numerals.

A Victorian fusee wall clock acts as a focal architectural feature when positioned above a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or within a hallway gallery wall. The rich mahogany tone provides warm visual contrast when paired with muted lime-wash walls or contemporary dark paint schemes.

Position the clock away from direct heat sources, radiators, and damp conditions to prevent timber movement and finish deterioration. Dust the carved case gently using a soft brush, polish mahogany surfaces sparingly with beeswax, and commission a professional horologist to service the mechanism every five to seven years.
