This Victorian wall clock is a late nineteenth-century timepiece originating from 1890, presented in a round form with a warm brown solid mahogany case and a turned mahogany surround. The timber displays a polished finish with natural grain variations, and the structure incorporates a heavy cast brass bezel holding a glass face. The off-white enamel dial shows prominent black Roman numerals, minute track markings, and spade hands in dark iron, alongside the retailer signature Holmes of Crouch End painted across the centre. Minor surface marks and gentle patination appear on the aged dial surface and brass frame, showing authentic signs of long-term use. Measuring 38 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, this compact round piece is suited for mounting directly to a wall above a sideboard within a gentleman's library or hallway.

A fusee dial clock is a traditional mechanical wall clock featuring a cone-shaped pulley system, known as a fusee, designed to equalise the force of the mainspring as it unwinds. Popular throughout nineteenth-century Britain, these timepieces were widely installed in public offices, schools, and railway stations due to their exceptional accuracy.

These clocks typically feature a solid mahogany or oak circular surround, a cast brass bezel holding a glass lens, and a hand-painted iron dial face. Internal components consist of heavy brass movement plates, steel arbours, and a steel mainspring chain.

Authentic Victorian examples generally feature a hand-painted iron dial face rather than printed paper, a heavy brass bezel with a latch mechanism, and a deep wooden back-box housing the brass fusee movement. A key winding hole is positioned on the dial face.

A mahogany dial clock functions as a strong graphic focal point when positioned above a hallway console table, inside an office study, or along a staircase wall. Its circular form complements both period timber features and contemporary minimalist interiors.

Mount the clock securely and level, ensuring it is positioned away from direct heat sources or dampness to safeguard the wooden case and painted dial. The movement requires weekly winding using the correct key and professional horological servicing every three to five years.
