FAQs

Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, draws heavy inspiration from neoclassical Greco-Roman and Egyptian motifs, characterised by clean lines, dark woods like mahogany, and classical proportions.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised imported Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often featuring hand-carved details, mortise and tenon joinery, and occasionally structural or decorative brass reinforcement.

Authentication involves examining timber oxidisation, hand-cut joinery marks, traditional upholstery webbing methods, and the natural wear patterns consistent with age and hand-tool fabrication.

Pairing a period piece with minimalist modern furniture creates a balanced interior, allowing the rich grain and historical character of the wood to serve as a focal point.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat the wood periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the finish without sealing it.
