A Scottish George III Wych Elm Armchair, Probably Perthshire C.1800

Description

An unusual 'brander back' chair intended as a study or library chair, with proportionally broad back, and arms that resemble those used on Raeburn/ Gainsborough chairs of the period.

So called 'drunkard's chairs' from the mid eighteenth century also provide an interesting comparison in terms of overall form.

The frame is nice and tight with some minor wear and tear. The front castors may be original, the rear ones are less likely to be.

Height to the top of the seat is: 40cm
