A wonderful and rare South Yorkshire 17th Century Oak Wainscot Chair of rich warm colour. The back having carved birds and scrolls to the crest, middle and bottom panel. The ear pieces shaped and carved again in the from of birds, this type of ear piece is typical of the region as is the three panel construction of the back. What is most unusual though are the striking carved stylised birds to the panels. Circa 1660
The seat has been replaced many years ago as has the bottom stretcher, otherwise the chair is in very good original condition having no repairs to the feet as is often the case at this early period.
This Chair has been photographed and documented many times including in Victor Chinnery''s book, Oak Furniture-The British Tradition.
