This is a fine quality antique English set of six Victorian mahogany dining chairs, with finely carved “balloon backs”, circa 1860, which have been newly upholstered and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in excellent condition. The chairs are designed with an attractive “balloon” shaped back and a shaped central horizontal splat, decorated with a finely carved foliate cartouche, flanked by scroll elements. The chairs feature drop-in seats, which have been newly upholstered to a professional standard in pale grey structured wool & cotton upholstery. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice for £20 per seat. The chair frames are constructed using the traditional mortice and tenon joints. The chairs have been cleaned, tightened and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The six Victorian mahogany dining chairs stand on elegant octagonal turned front legs, with sabre rear legs, united by elegant moulded horizontal rails.

Condition Report:

The chairs have been cleaned, tightened and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. They therefore display a stunning colour and patination. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chairs but nothing significant considering the age of the chairs. The seats have been newly upholstered to a professional standard in pale grey structured wool & cotton upholstery. The upholstery is therefore clean, free from wear and marks. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice for £20 per seat. The chair frames and joints are all in excellent condition, solid in joint with no breaks; the chairs are ready to be used.
