This is a fine quality antique set of eight French kitchen chairs, in the Louis XV style, made from solid oak, with a ladder-back design, featuring drop-in rush seats, circa 1920, in excellent original condition. Featuring a shaped top rail with a shell carved cartouche and two further shaped rails below, in the form of a ladder-back design within the shaped upright supports; the chairs feature “drop-in” rush seats, all of which are in good condition. The shaped seat frame incorporates a shell carved motif apron. The seats are raised on fine cabriole legs to the front (which terminate on curled toecaps), with straight legs to the rear, all of which are united by elegantly turned stretchers for added strength and stability. The eight French kitchen chairs are heavy in weight, which is a good sign of fine quality and it means they are also sturdy.

Condition Report:

This is a fine quality antique set of eight French kitchen chairs, in the Louis XV style, made from solid oak, with a ladder-back design, featuring drop-in rush seats, circa 1920, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair frames have been glued and the wood has been cleaned and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. Therefore, the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. The chairs incorporate drop-in rush woven seats, which show some signs of age and wear, but are perfectly in-keeping with the age of the chairs, they are solid in joint and are of good quality. The chairs are heavy, which is a sign of good quality and ensures they are sturdy. The chairs are solid in joint, they do not wobble and are ready to use.
