A very good quality 19th C. Walnut Metamorphic Chair, manufactured by James Shoolbred & Co. Circa 1890.
The chair has pierced top rails in a gothic style with pyramid embellishments. It easily transforms into a set of sturdy library steps that still have the original carpet treads.
Stamped Jas SHOOLBRED & Co. on the lower tread.
Some wear etc. as would be expected from years of use and two of the embellishments are missing, but in nice, solid, original condition and as useful today as the day they were made.
