This Art Deco drinks cabinet from 1930 stands as a notable cocktail chest shaped in the manner of Epstein, constructed from warm brown walnut with intricate marquetry and brass hardware. The upper section features a pair of panelled doors embellished with floral marquetry motifs, set above two drawers with brass handles and a lower cabinet with bowed doors and carved cabriole legs. Quarter-veneered panels with inlaid borders define the front surfaces, complemented by key escutcheons and detailed floral carving on the frieze above the curved cabriole legs. Measuring 149 cm high, 88 cm wide and 48 cm deep, the piece offers a practical footprint for interior placement. In a modern home, this cabinet functions as a focal point in a living room, dining room or entertaining space to store glassware and bottles while adding mid-century character. The warm timber tones integrate easily into various interior schemes, providing both surface display area and enclosed storage. The structure is offered in great shape for immediate use, retaining its original configuration and decorative details ready for daily function in a contemporary setting.

FAQs

Art Deco cocktail cabinets from the 1930s typically feature figure-grained timber veneers, geometric or stylised floral marquetry, bowed or curved fronts, and specialised interior fittings for storing glassware and bottles.

Cabinetmakers during this period frequently used solid walnut frames topped with figurative walnut veneers, such as burr or quarter-matched cuts, alongside inlaid fruitwoods and cast brass hardware.

Authentic Epstein pieces are distinguished by high-grade walnut veneers, curved or cloud-shaped contours, carved feet, fine marquetry panels, and sturdy hardwood drawer linings.

Place the piece as a focal point in a dining room or living room, keeping nearby decor minimalist to highlight the intricate wood grain and marquetry details.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer movement.
