A superb and highly unusual late 18th-century glass rummer.
The bowl sits on a plain stem above a notably thick firing foot.

The overall form is exceptional. The combination of the bucket bowl, plain stem, and particularly the substantial firing foot is very rarely encountered on rummers of this period. Indeed, in over 20 years of handling and collecting, this is the first example we have seen with this exact combination of features.

English clear glass rummers of the 18th and 19th centuries were sturdy, practical drinking glasses used primarily for ale, wine and punch. Their large bowls and heavy feet made them ideal for taverns, clubs, and social gatherings where durability and generous measures were important.
