This Edwardian display cabinet dates from 1900 and uses warm brown mahogany, satinwood, glass, and brass. The upper section has a moulded cornice, glazed sides, and a single glazed door with astragal glazing bars enclosing two shelves and a fabric-lined interior. The serpentine lower section has a single drawer with two round brass handles, above a pair of panelled cupboard doors with floral marquetry and scrolling foliate inlay. The cabinet stands on square tapering legs. It measures 202 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this cabinet suits a dining room, living room, or hallway to store and display porcelain, glassware, books, or decorative objects. The upper section showcases items behind glass, while the lower drawer and cupboard doors provide enclosed storage space.

Edwardian display cabinets typically feature refined neoclassical proportions, lighter mahogany timbers, intricate satinwood or boxwood marquetry inlays, and elegant astragal glazed doors designed to showcase porcelain or books.

Cabinetmakers during the Edwardian period predominantly used fine mahogany, satinwood, and rosewood veneers, often incorporating boxwood stringing, solid brass hardware, and hand-cut glass panes.

Authentic Edwardian cabinets exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass escutcheons, smooth patina on original mahogany veneers, and delicate, high-quality marquetry or stringing flush with the timber surface.

Position the piece against a neutral wall to highlight the rich timber tone, filling the glazed shelves with a curation of ceramics, glassware, or contemporary art books to create a balanced focal point.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking or veneer lifting, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain.
