Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Gothic Revival cabinet is constructed from oak with a warm brown timber finish and a red interior lining the shelves. The architectural piece stands 200 cm high, 194 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, featuring double glazed doors set within carved tracery borders, fluted side columns, and an overhanging moulded cornice above a plinth base. Visible details include carved decorative edges framing the glass panels and distinct vertical grain patterns across the timber surfaces. Position this substantial display unit in a reception room or study to house books, collections, or display objects. The tall proportions provide generous interior storage while anchoring a room with its traditional Gothic Revival presence.

FAQs

Gothic Revival furniture emerged in the 19th century, drawing inspiration from medieval architecture. Key characteristics include pointed arches, trefoil or quatrefoil carvings, tracery details, and robust timber construction, predominantly using oak or walnut.

Cabinets from this era were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, fitted with hand-blown or drawn glass panes, and finished with brass or iron lock mechanisms.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-correct glass with slight distortions or air bubbles, age-consistent wear along the base and handles, and original backboards attached with hand-driven screws or nails.

A Gothic Revival cabinet serves as a strong architectural focal point in contemporary spaces. Position it against neutral walls to highlight the dark timber, and use the interior shelves to display curated ceramics, books, or glassware.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and finish degradation.
