This clear crystal glass decanter dates from the Victorian Arts & Crafts period around 1880, originating from James Powell in London. The hand-blown piece has a teardrop-shaped body with an optic-moulded pattern, a slender flared neck, a circular footed base, and a flame-shaped glass stopper. Light reflections reveal the transparent quality of the glass and the textured surface of the mouldings, while the interior shows subtle variations from the traditional blowing process. Measuring 33.75 cm high, the vessel stands tall on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library or dining room, providing a traditional display for spirits or fortified wine.

Victorian Arts and Crafts glassware is defined by a focus on hand-blown production, delicate organic profiles, and subtle optic effects that deliberately departed from heavy cut-glass techniques.

High-grade lead crystal was hand-blown using wooden or iron optic moulds, resulting in lightweight vessels with ground-glass stoppers custom-fitted to the neck.

Authentic pieces display polished pontil marks on the underside of the foot, hand-ground matching stopper joints, delicate glass wall thickness, and precise optic-moulded ribbing.

Position the decanter on a dark timber sideboard, stone tray, or metal bar cart where light can pass through the clear glass structure.

Wash by hand using lukewarm water and mild liquid detergent, avoiding dishwashers which cause irreversible surface clouding, and dry thoroughly before replacing the stopper.
