Liqueur decanters gained widespread popularity during the Georgian and Regency periods when serving after-dinner spirits and fortified wines became an established formal dining custom. These smaller vessels were specifically designed to display clear or richly coloured liquors on sideboards and dining tables.

Traditional glass decanters were hand-blown before skilled craftsmen cut geometric facets and panels into the thick glass using rotating grinding wheels. Stoppers were subsequently hand-ground to fit the specific neck opening of each individual bottle to ensure an airtight seal.

Authentic period decanters often display minor irregularities from hand-cutting, a polished pontil mark on the underside of the base, and age-related wear to the bottom contact points.
