This traditional Chinese porcelain vase originates from 1880, displaying a classic shape with a flared rim, a slender neck, an oval body, and a tapered circular base. The piece has a glossy white glaze decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue brushwork depicting multiple crayfish and shrimp motifs swimming amidst aquatic plants. Fine thrown rings encircle the neck and body from the turning process, adding subtle texture to the surface. The base is finished in plain white porcelain, and the exterior shows no visible chips, cracks, or signs of wear. Measuring 31 cm high, this vessel is suited for placement on a living room sideboard top or a dining room console table. It holds dried stems or stands alone as a decorative accent within an interior scheme.

Blue and white porcelain originated in China, utilising cobalt blue pigment painted directly onto refined porcelain clay before being coated in a transparent glaze and fired at high temperatures.

These ceramic pieces are crafted from kaolin clay combined with petuntse, decorated with ground cobalt mineral pigments for the blue painting, and finished with a feldspathic glaze.

Specialists evaluate the composition of the unglazed foot rim, the density of the clay body, the depth of the cobalt oxide oxidisation, and the execution of the hand-painted brushwork.

These ceramics serve as focal accents on sideboards, mantelpieces, or shelving units, pairing with natural timber furniture, modern neutral paint schemes, and understated metal finishes.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive wash, avoiding soaking, harsh chemical solvents, and sudden changes in environmental temperature.
