This Chinese porcelain bottle vase dates from the Kangxi Period around 1700 and exemplifies Chinese Export style. Hand-painted underglaze blue flowering plants and rocks adorn the body, complemented by further plants encircling the neck, while later Dutch decoration introduces bold enamels and gilt alongside foliage and leaf-shaped panels. The gloss-glazed ceramic features a vibrant red background accented by blue, green, and gold enamel motifs, complete with a flared neck and a pear-shaped body bearing a pseudo iron red seal mark on the base. The piece stands 14 cm high with an 8 cm diameter, showing very minor wear to the enamel. Display this vase on a mantelpiece to add a traditional focal point to an English Country House interior. The slender profile and colourful surface decoration suit a living room shelf or a side table arrangement where the intricate painted details remain clearly visible to guests.

Clobbered porcelain refers to Chinese underglaze blue porcelain that received additional overglaze enamel decoration in Europe, predominantly in the Netherlands and England, during the eighteenth century to satisfy evolving European consumer tastes.

Pieces were initially produced in Jindezhen, China, using high-fired hard-paste porcelain with underglaze cobalt blue decoration. Upon arrival in Europe via trade routes, local enamellers applied bright polychrome glazes and gold detailing before re-firing the vessel at lower temperatures.

Authentic pieces exhibit visible European overglaze enamels overlaid on top of original Chinese blue-and-white motifs. Inspection under lighting often reveals texture differences between the smooth original glaze and the slightly raised, applied enamel paint.

Position the vase as a solitary decorative focal point on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or within a curated shelf display alongside neutral materials to highlight its vivid polychrome colours and historical surface texture.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush. Avoid immersing the item in water or using abrasive chemical cleaners, as overglaze enamels and gilding can wear away or flake off if handled aggressively.
