This early 19th-century Georgian longcase clock is constructed from warm brown mahogany with boxwood stringing inlay, incorporating flame mahogany panels on the trunk door and base. The case stands 219 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 25 cm deep, holding an eight-day movement with a brass dial, silvered chapter ring, and brass spandrels, topped by a swan-neck pediment with brass finials and reeded columns flanking the glass-fronted hood. The painted arch depicts a moon phase mechanism and text reading high water at Bristol dock, while the door displays an oval stringing inlay pattern, and the base features matching stringing details above bracket feet. Suitable for placement in a hallway, library, or living room, the clock functions as a traditional timekeeper with visible steel hands and winding holes on the engraved dial face.

A moon phase longcase clock is a tall, free-standing, weight-driven pendulum clock featuring an aperture or revolving disk in the arch above the main dial that tracks the 29.5-day lunar cycle. Popularised during the 18th and early 19th centuries, these horological instruments allowed owners to anticipate bright moonlight for night travel.

Cases from this period were predominantly crafted from solid wood and veneers such as flame mahogany, oak, or walnut, often detailed with boxwood or satinwood stringing. The internal clockwork mechanisms were constructed using brass plates, steel pinions, and cast iron weights.

Authentic examples typically display hand-engraved silvered brass or painted iron dials, original movement mounting board marks, and hand-cut dovetail joints on the wooden case. Key design elements of the era include swan-neck pediments, reeded quarter-columns, and fine flame mahogany veneers.

Position the clock as a focal piece in a hallway, entryway, or dining space alongside neutral decor to highlight the warm mahogany wood tones. Pairing the historic piece with clean architectural lines creates a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Keep the clock case away from direct sunlight, radiators, and areas with fluctuating humidity to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Clean the wooden surface with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually, while ensuring the mechanical movement is serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
