An Edwardian clear glass biscuit barrel showcases an English Country House design vibe with cylindrical form and domed lid. The transparent glass body and lid display hand-painted white enamel decoration with lace patterns and chevron detailing, complemented by light traces of gilding and a spherical glass finial. The piece measures 24 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 15 cm deep. The barrel stands in excellent condition with no chips or cracks, displaying signs of age and use through faded gilding. Placed on a sideboard top, the glass vessel stores biscuits or crackers while adding a decorative touch to dining rooms or kitchens. The transparent material and white enamel patterns suit traditional interior settings, serving as a functional container for everyday use or display.

Edwardian enamelled glassware typically dates from the early 20th century, characterised by fine hand-painted enamel decoration applied to clear or tinted glass, frequently featuring delicate floral, lace, or geometric patterns.

These containers were formed from mouth-blown or press-moulded clear glass, subsequently hand-painted with vitreous enamel pastes before being fired at lower temperatures to permanently fuse the pigment to the glass surface.

Authentic examples often feature minor operational wear to the base, hand-applied enamelling with subtle raised tactile textures, and ground or polished inner rims where the glass lid sits against the body.

Display this piece on a kitchen dresser, dining sideboard, or open shelving alongside contrasting natural materials such as oak or marble to accentuate its translucent detailed pattern work.

Hand wash using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges, harsh chemical cleansers, or dishwashers, which can degrade delicate surface enamel work.
