This Edwardian wall clock is an early 20th-century station master timepiece formerly located at Peterborough East, originating from the London North Eastern Railway and later assigned to the British Rail Eastern Region. The piece comprises an original round mahogany case with a warm brown wooden finish, a brass rim framing a glass cover, and an off-white dial featuring Roman numerals, secondary 24-hour markings, spade clock hands, and B.R.(E.) lettering alongside issue number 9258. The visible elements display minor age-related wear, small surface marks around the dial numbers, and a hinged side latch on the timber surround. Measuring 39 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, the clock suits placement on a narrow wall space in a study, library, or hallway. It operates on an 8-day fusee movement that has been recently serviced and functions in full working order, accompanied by a copy of the recorded operational history.

British railway wall clocks were introduced in the 19th and early 20th centuries to standardise timekeeping across national rail networks. Each clock was typically assigned an official inventory number and allocated to specific stations, signal boxes, or administrative offices.

These clocks were commonly constructed using turned solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak for the outer surround, housing a hand-painted or printed cream dial face protected by a glass lens framed in a cast brass bezel.

Authentic examples feature official regional markings printed or painted on the dial, such as network initials or inventory numbers. The rear movement cases often retain official railway company wax seals, stamps, or brass identification plates matching dial records.

A circular timber wall clock creates a focal point when hung individually on a narrow wall space, above a writing desk, or within a gallery wall arrangement. Its warm wood tones and clean dial complement industrial, traditional, and transitional decor schemes.

Dust the timber casing regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically to preserve the original patina. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners on the glass or dial, and ensure mechanical movement components are serviced by a professional horologist.
