FAQs

Bedside tables, often known as night tables or commodes, became popular in British homes during the Georgian era as bedrooms evolved into more private, functional spaces.

Authentic period pieces were typically constructed from solid timber and veneers such as mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, turned legs, and brass or wooden knobs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, secondary woods used in drawer construction, hand-cut joinery, and natural ageing characteristics such as oxidisation and patina.

Mixing antique dark wood pieces with modern lighting and minimalist bedroom decor creates a layered, sophisticated aesthetic that bridges traditional and contemporary design.

Maintenance requires keeping wooden surfaces away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the timber.
