Imari porcelain is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the Hizen province (modern-day Saga Prefecture), and shipped from the port of Imari to European markets starting in the 17th century.

Traditional Imari ceramics are crafted from high-fired hard-paste porcelain, typically characterised by a distinctive palette of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red, complemented by highlights in gilt, green, and aubergine.

Authentic pieces generally display potting characteristics such as gritty unglazed foot rims, hand-painted underglaze and overglaze pigments with noticeable textural relief, and historical crazing or wear consistent with age.

These decorative objects can be displayed prominently on console tables, within recessed shelving units, or utilised as statement floor pieces to introduce rich colour, pattern, and historical depth into a room.

Dusting should be performed gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid soaking or using abrasive chemical cleaning agents, as these can damage overglaze enamels and fragile gilding.
