Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large antique Japanese Imari vase dates to 1910 and takes the form of a tall porcelain vessel with a bulbous lower body, tapering neck, and a fluted, crimped rim. The surface is decorated with hand-painted enamel and gold leaf motifs, including central panels depicting samurai figures alongside botanical elements such as flowers, leaves, scrolls, and trees rendered in rust red, blue, white, green, and black against a white ground. Underglaze blue patterns and shaped panels accent the upper neck and rim. Measuring 55 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 22 cm deep, the piece functions well as an ornamental display item placed on a sideboard top within an English country house interior.

FAQs

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province and exported via the port of Imari. It is characterised by underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red enamel and gilding.

These pieces were potted using white kaolin clay, painted with underglaze cobalt blue, and fired at high temperatures. Subsequently, overglaze enamels in red, green, and gold gilding were painted onto the glaze and fired a second time in a lower-temperature kiln.

Authentic pieces display distinct hand-painted brushwork with slight variances in glaze texture, visible foot-rim wear, underglaze blue undertones, and complex panel designs depicting foliage, mythology, or historical figures.

An Imari vase acts as a vibrant focal point when positioned on a dark timber sideboard, within an eclectic entryway display, or alongside contemporary minimalist decor to contrast textures and historical richness.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush around delicate crimped rims. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive sponges, or immersion in hot water, which can degrade fragile overglaze enamels and gilding.
