Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export wares produced in the Arita area of Hizen province and exported via the port of Imari. Characterised by rich underglaze blue, overglaze iron red, and gilded accents, it gained widespread popularity in Europe from the late seventeenth century onwards.

Imari ceramics are crafted from hard-paste kaolin clay fired at high temperatures. The intricate decoration involves an initial underglaze cobalt blue firing, followed by secondary low-fire kilns for iron-red enamels and gold leaf embellishments.

Authentic 19th-century Imari displays characteristic colour palettes of deep cobalt blue, rust red, and subtle gilded highlights. Examination reveals hand-painted enamel variations, minor kiln firing marks on the unglazed base, and age-appropriate surface wear.

A large Imari vase serves as a focal accent on a dark wood sideboard, marble mantelpiece, or hallway console. Its structured geometry and rich colour palette complement both traditional period homes and contemporary minimalist schemes.

Clean Imari porcelain using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or lukewarm water with a mild pH-neutral liquid soap. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive pads, or prolonged immersion, as these can wear away overglaze enamels and delicate gilding.
