This large Japanese Karango Imari vase dates from the 19th century Meiji period. Constructed from porcelain with a glossy glaze, it presents an iron-red, blue and gold colour scheme with white panels. The flared rim leads to a tall neck with patterned borders, above a central body decorated with hand-painted blue bamboo stalks and small butterfly motifs, resting on a footed base with intricate floral and scroll designs. The measurements are 78 cm high, 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep. Positioned on a sideboard top, this piece serves as a decorative display object in an English country house interior. The vase brings traditional craftsmanship to a living room, dining room or hallway, working well as a standalone focal point or integrated into an established collection of oriental ceramics.
