The George III period, spanning from 1760 to 1820, was characterised by neoclassical influences, refined proportions, and a shift towards lighter, more elegant forms in metalwork and furniture design.

These pieces were typically produced using brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, often manufactured through sand casting or lost-wax casting methods before being hand-finished on a lathe.

Authentic pieces often exhibit casting flaws, file marks from hand-finishing, patination appropriate to age, and multi-component construction secured by threaded rods or peened pins rather than modern machine screws.

Pairing historic metalware with modern minimalist surfaces or grouping them on a mantelpiece creates a sophisticated contrast between old and new textures.

Preservation involves dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip the desirable historic patina; mild soap and water should be used only when strictly necessary.
