Boulle work is an intricate form of marquetry developed by Andre-Charles Boulle, cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV of France, featuring inlaid brass and tortoiseshell.

These items typically incorporate gilt bronze or ormolu mounts, tortoiseshell or synthetic imitation grounds, brass inlay, enamel dials, and intricate brass mechanical movements.

Authenticity is determined by examining the quality of the hand-chased gilt bronze mounts, the makers stamp on the movement backplate, hand-cut brass gears, and the precision of the marquetry inlay.

Placing this piece on a minimalist console table or mantelpiece creates a striking contrast against contemporary lines, drawing the eye as a sculptural focal point.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight and fluctuating temperatures to prevent material degradation, and dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth without using chemical cleaners.
