Georgian drinking glasses encompass a wide range of styles produced during the reigns of the four Georges, often characterised by heavy lead metal composition, pontil marks on the base, and distinctive stem formations like baluster, air twist, and plain stems.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead glass, introduced in the late 17th century, which allowed for brilliant clarity and heavier weights. Artisans used free-blowing and mould-blowing techniques, finishing pieces with hand-formed folded feet and snapped pontil marks.

Authenticity is determined by examining the weight, surface wear patterns, trapped tiny air bubbles within the metal, and the presence of a rough or polished pontil mark on the underside of the base, alongside the characteristic grey tone of authentic period lead glass.

Antique glassware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, utilized on open shelving to catch natural light, or styled on sideboards as part of a curated display featuring other period objects.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in warm water with mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock, and dried carefully with a lint-free cloth.
