Longcase clocks, commonly known as grandfather clocks, emerged in the late 17th century following the invention of the anchor escapement, which allowed for longer pendulums and narrower cases.

Cabinetmakers traditionally used native timbers such as oak, mahogany, walnut, and pine, often featuring hand-painted or brass dials and intricate wooden veneers.

Authentic period pieces typically feature hand-cut brass movements, original timber shrinkage cracks, traditional joinery like dovetails, and hand-painted or engraved brass dial faces.

A tall clock serves as a striking focal point in entrance halls, living rooms, or home libraries, contrasting effectively against neutral contemporary walls.

Keep mechanical clocks away from direct sunlight and heat sources, ensure the case stands on a level surface, and have the movement professionally serviced every few years.
