Well Proportioned Oak Longcase Clock with Swan Neck Pediment, Reeded Mahogany Hood Columns, Full Length Trunk Door with Mahogany Cross Banding. Raised on Splayed Bracket Feet and Topped off with 3 Very Good Quality Heavy Brass Finials.

The 8 Day Bell Striking Movement with Attractive Painted Dial with Both Seconds and Date Subsidiary Dials. Decorated with 2 Exotic Birds, Peony Flowers in Each Corner and Gilt Decoration. Signed Walter Watson "Mirincham" mistakenly for Altrincham, Cheshire, England. He is recorded in Brian Loomes Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World Book Circa 1800.

The Movement has been checked, Services and Tested to be in Good and Full Antique Working Condition.

Georgian longcase clocks were produced during the reigns of Kings George I through IV (17141830). Characterised by architectural pediments, proportioned wooden cases in oak or mahogany, and hand-painted or brass dials, these pendulum-driven clocks featured eight-day or thirty-hour movements.

Cases were predominantly constructed from solid oak, walnut, or mahogany, often featuring decorative mahogany or satinwood crossbanding. Dials were made from brass with silvered chapter rings in earlier examples, or painted sheet iron in later 18th and early 19th-century models.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, weight-driven cast brass movements, and age-appropriate wear to the movement plates and case interior. Hand-painted dials from the period often show light craquelure and maker signatures corresponding to historic regional clockmakers.

A longcase clock serves as a focal architectural piece in an entrance hall, stair landing, or formal dining room. Positioned against a neutral wall, the dark timber tones and classic proportions provide visual balance alongside contemporary or traditional furnishings.

Keep the clock situated on a level surface away from direct heat sources and moisture variations. The mechanical movement requires regular lubrication by a professional horologist every five to seven years to ensure accurate timekeeping and prevent wear.
