This 1880 Sheraton style bijouterie cabinet is fashioned from warm brown mahogany with contrasting satinwood, rosewood, boxwood and ebony line inlay. The tall display piece stands 236 cm high, 92 cm wide and 55 cm deep, combining a glazed two-door upper cabinet with four internal wooden shelves beneath a broken arch swan-neck pediment and a chequered frieze. Below the upper cabinet sits a lower showcase featuring a glazed lifting top with vibrant red velvet upholstery inside and glazed sides. The entire structure rests on square tapered legs with splayed toes, united by a curved lower stretcher. In a contemporary home, this elegant display cabinet suits a formal drawing room, study or grand hallway to exhibit cherished collectibles, small ornaments and curated curiosities. The vertical proportions make it ideal for rooms with high ceilings, while the glass panels on multiple sides and the velvet-lined base allow treasures to be viewed from various angles. The fine wood marquetry and classical proportions introduce traditional British furniture craftsmanship to an interior.

A bijouterie cabinet is a specialised display piece designed primarily to display and protect small valuable items, curiosities, and jewellery behind glass panels.

These cabinets are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, frequently decorated with satinwood or boxwood line inlay, brass hardware, glass glazing, and velvet linings.

Sheraton style pieces are defined by refined classical proportions, slender tapered legs, geometric symmetry, delicate string inlay, and swan-neck or pediment cornices.

Position the piece against a neutral wall to highlight its timber figure and silhouette, using the glazed compartments to display curated porcelain, pocket watches, or small sculpture collections.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, applying beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, cleaning glass with non-ammonia spray, and keeping the item away from direct sunlight.
