Description

Superb, highest quality, set of 12 early 20th century cut crystal water or lemonade tumblers. This large set of glasses dates from around 1910 - 1920 and are of superb quality. Very deeply cut in a pleasing design. Multi faceted star cut bases. It is hard to find large sets of glasses like this now in this condition. All are perfect with no chips.

This set of glasses is part of a much larger suite of 70 glasses, all matching that we found packed away in boxes in the attic of a house we recently cleared. The glasses were all rather dirty having been stored in the house attic for a large number of years. Once all washed it became apparent they have hardly been used at all. Please phone if you would like a price for the whole suite.

Cut crystal glassware gained immense popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in Britain and Ireland, where heavy lead glass allowed for deep, light-refracting geometric incisions.

Authentic pieces are traditionally crafted from lead glass, known for its high refractive index and clarity, shaped by glassblowing and hand-cut using abrasive wheels.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining the weight, clarity, presence of tiny surface imperfections or tool marks from hand-cutting, and the characteristic musical ring when gently struck.

Displaying vintage crystal in contemporary settings adds texture and light reflection, whether arranged openly on a bar cart or utilised during formal dining occasions.

Antique crystal should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive sponges to prevent scratching.
