A pair of Victorian glass tumblers date to around 1850. The clear lead glass vessels have a tapered form with smooth rims, deep bowls, panel fluting around the lower section, and thick flat octagonal bases. As handmade items, they exhibit slightly different proportions and weights while forming a matching pair. The image shows transparent clear glass, panelled fluted moulding, and distinct octagonal bases. Each tumbler measures 9.5 cm high, 8.8 cm wide, and 8.8 cm deep. These glassware pieces suit a gentleman's library or a dining room sideboard top. They function practically for serving Scottish whisky during social gatherings or quiet evenings. Their robust build and traditional styling integrate seamlessly into period or contemporary interior settings.

Nineteenth-century glass tumblers are flat-bottomed drinking vessels constructed without stems or handles. Mid-Victorian examples frequently incorporate thick bases, heavy glass weight, and panelled or fluted mouldings around the lower body.

Glassmakers during this period predominantly used soda-lime glass or lead crystal, which were hand-blown, mould-blown, or press-moulded before being finished with hand-cut fluting or polished bases.

Authentic pieces usually display minor variations in thickness and diameter, small enclosed air bubbles, slight asymmetrical hand-finishing, and age-consistent wear or micro-scratches on the flat underside.

These pieces can be styled on a sideboard tray or bar cart alongside glass decanters, serving as functional barware or decorative accents within classic and modern settings.

Wash by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent with a soft cloth. Avoid dishwashers, abrasive pads, and extreme thermal shocks that could induce cracks or clouding in historic glass.
