FAQs

Art Deco opalescent glass is a type of decorative glassware developed during the early 20th century, characterised by its milky, translucent appearance that shifts in colour between blue and amber when viewed under different lighting conditions.

These pieces were typically crafted using heavy moulded or pressed glass, often enhanced with bone ash or other minerals to achieve the characteristic opalescent effect, followed by hand-finishing and polishing.

Authentic pieces typically feature crisp mould details, correct factory signatures or acid-etched marks from the period, appropriate weight, and natural surface wear consistent with age.

Place the piece on a polished surface such as a sideboard or coffee table where directional lighting can pass through the glass to highlight the opalescent tones.

Clean the glass gently using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives, chemical cleaners, or immersion in hot water to protect the delicate surface finish.
