Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Art Deco opalescent glass is a press-moulded decorative glassware developed primarily in the 1920s and 1930s. It contains chemical additives such as bone ash or arsenic that react to temperature changes during cooling, producing a translucent, milky blue or fiery orange optical effect when light passes through the piece.

Pieces were created using high-quality glass batches pressed into intricate metal moulds. The raised areas cooled faster than the thicker body, causing localized phase separation that created the characteristic milky, iridescent colour variation across relief details.

Authentic pieces generally feature moulded or wheel-engraved signatures such as R. LALIQUE or R. LALIQUE FRANCE. Genuine examples exhibit high-precision mould hand-finishing, balanced opalescence, and smooth, polished rims rather than rough edges or modern acid-etched marks.

Position the piece where natural light or focused artificial spotlighting can highlight its optical qualities, such as on a polished dark wood sideboard, glass console table, or deep window sill. Pairing opalescent glass with dark contemporary surfaces creates contrast that emphasizes the subtle blue hues.

Wash gently by hand using tepid water and a mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads or harsh chemical cleaners. Dry thoroughly with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent water spots, and keep the glass away from extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent thermal shock.
