Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The domed front is lifted up and rolls back to reveal a super interior with the original cut crystal inkwells (they fit perfectly and need to be placed correctly for the lid to open and shut, so take care replacing them on arrival with you). A really unusual pair of inks too, with a removable crystal drainer where excess ink would be tapped off of the pen and drain back into the glass pot below (one small insignificant chip to one of the drainers).
Between the tow inkwells are two small drawers with spherical brass handles matching the one below opening the large drawer under the inkstand. These small drawers would be for postage stamps, pen nibs, a seal and sealing wax. The large drawer would be used to store stationery.
On the very top is an ebonised pen tray, I am including this small bone handled dip pen to complete the offering.
All in original condition, dating to around 1860 so Victorian in era it remains in great shape. 10 1/2" wide 8" deep x 6 1/2" tall at rear.
