Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised in 19th-century France, a clock garniture is a decorative ensemble designed for display on a mantelpiece or sideboard. The set typically features a central timepiece accompanied by two matching ornamental flankers, such as candelabra or urns, to establish visual symmetry in formal interiors.

These clock sets were crafted using gilt bronze, also known as ormolu, which was mercury-gilded to achieve a durable golden surface finish. This metalwork was often paired with hand-painted porcelain components, enamel clock dials, and precision brass mechanical clock movements.

Authentic period examples often feature makers stamps or movement numbers stamped into the back plate of the movement, such as those from noted makers like Vincenti or Japy Freres. Examination of the gilding, the presence of hand-painted porcelain details, and traditional hand-cut threads on the bronze mountings also help verify age.

A garniture set functions as a central focal point when positioned on a traditional fireplace mantelpiece, a dining room credenza, or a wide console table. To balance the ornate gilded details, pair the set with clean-lined architectural backdrop elements or minimalist artwork.

Dust the set regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to reach fine carved crevices. Avoid liquid chemical cleaners, water, or abrasive metal polishes, as these will strip the delicate gilding from the bronze surface.
