Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Sevres-style mantel clock is a French decorative timepiece featuring porcelain panels or urns painted in the distinctive manner of the famous Sevres Porcelain Manufactory, encased within cast gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts.

These clocks were typically constructed using cast bronze that was gilded using the mercury-amalgam process (ormolu), combined with hard-paste or soft-paste porcelain panels, hand-enameled dials, and brass mechanical clockworks.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy, finely hand-chased bronze castings with sharp detail on the reverse, hand-painted porcelain panels showing delicate brushstrokes rather than transfer prints, and maker stamps or serial numbers on the brass movement backplate.

Place the clock as a central focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, marble console table, or sideboard, pairing it with clean-lined modern art or minimalist mirrors to create an engaging contextual contrast.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth or soft camel-hair brush, avoiding water, chemical solvents, or metal polishes that can wear away gilding and paint, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional clockmaker every five to seven years.
