Antique and Unique has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
This beautiful box was probably made as glove box, but it would be good for keeping jewellery or other small items. It has a shield shaped brass escutcheon and what appears to be the original lock and key, though they key is badly worn and no longer turns the lock. The lock does work (we have tried it with a key from another box that fits it). The base and the inside to the lid are lined with velvet.

Condition: There is a small area of damaged and re-glued veneer on one side, and a small repair to a corner of the lid. The lid doesn’t shut completely, so a small gap is visible around the opening.
