In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The structure of the box itself is an ebonised wood, decorated with small white circles of bone. The outer of the box is decorated with porcupine quills in different black and white patterns.
The box is in very good condition and comes with its original working key. It is structurally sound with a few minor losses and signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. One of the small brass pins that help to pull out the tray is missing but it still comes out smoothly with the one.
